Artist Spotlight: Wenny Lin

This summer we've had the opportunity to add a wonderful new voice to our team, and as her internship draws to a close, we wanted to shine a spotlight on Wenny Lin. Her work has had a positive impact on several of our ongoing productions and we wish her all the best!

Wenny will be returning to Sheridan College to complete their animation program, and we will miss her animation & design skills and her presence in the studio.

You can find more of Wenny's work at her Portfolio Site.

What's your favourite colour combination? (2 or 3 colours)
Pink, Purple, Blue

Can you think of a particular piece of media that inspired you to become an artist?
My favorite shoujo mangas back in elementary school were the ones by Arina Tanemura. I loved her stories and admired her detailed art style and also wanted to become a comic book artist. A lot has changed from then but she was my biggest inspiration to pursue a career in the arts!

What has been the high point of your career so far?
I’ve dreamt of working at a professional studio since high school and coming to Kickstart has been one of the most fun experiences for me as an artist. To have the opportunity to be a designer on a show still feels kind of unreal to me and I’m super happy to have been a part of this awesome team!

What do you most want to improve in your work?
There are so many things that need work but what I want to improve on the most right now is layout and character design. I also want to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and get in the habit of drawing more quickly and loosely.

What's your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Spending my entire day lying on the couch reading webtoons.

You’re stuck on a desert island with a laptop and a USB stick containing the entirety of one cartoon -
what show is it?

HUNTERXHUNTER, one of my most favorite animes.

Pick three cartoon characters that describe your personality.
1. Nari (Odd Girl Out webtoon)
2. Amu Hinamori
3. Kronk

What’s a piece of media you’ve consumed lately (tv, movie, music, podcast, etc) that has inspired you to create?

What’s on your work playlist?
Listening to more R&B recently, but mostly K-Pop and Rock
