Kickstart’s Vancouver Studio is located in the Railtown neighbourhood of Vancouver. We work near designers, artists, our beloved Railtown Cafe, plus an assortment of Food Trucks. Crab Park is just a few steps away, not to mention lots of great happy hour spots. Speaking of happy hour – we have our very own Tiki Bar at the studio which is a popular destination on Fridays after work. We like to have fun as a team, so we always have a variety of social events on the go. We value knowing the professional goals of our employees and help to reach them by offering workshops, online training and supporting the personal creative endeavours of our teammates.

Heather is the founder of Kickstart’s Vancouver Studio, which opened its doors in 2007. Since its inception she’s enjoyed work-related adventures that include traipsing through the jungles of Thailand with film crews and snake wranglers; days and nights and more days and more nights treading through the CAVCO websites and tax credit rules; and of course those two days in Manila that turned into six weeks, all for the love of cartoons. Thrills! She loves art and people, problem-solving and cheerleading. When she’s not at the studio she enjoys watching bloopers, watching the Whitecaps, home-brew kombucha, hot yoga, hot saunas, hot tea and generally anything warm and snuggly.

Outside of the studio, Sasha is a writer/producer and director most proud of her company’s 2017 comedic soap-opera, Beaver’s Edge.

Vanessa is the master of all things Human Resources at Kickstart Vancouver, whether it's keeping in close contact with team members, or recruiting new talent to join us. Prior to Kickstart, Vanessa was at local Vancouver studio The Sequence Group, and worked as a recruiter for seven years before that. She graduated from the School of Life with honours and a sparkling perspective on how to help creativity flourish in a business environment. Her favorite projects so far have been Bottersnikes & Gumbles, as well as Enchantimals. Outside of the studio, Vanessa spends a significant amount of time volunteering with organizations that support women in the local community. Inside the studio, she really likes to jam out to boy bands in her office.

Joining Kickstart in 2017, Brian came to us from the illustrious world of video games, having previously worked at Electronic Arts and Sanrio Digital. He’s studied game design at Vancouver Film School, business management at Kwantlen, and is Kickstart’s only certified Scrum

Master. Two of Brian’s favorite past projects have been the incongruously named Hello Kitty Online and Facebreaker. Of course, his first Kickstart project, Ready Jet Go!, will always hold a special place in his heart. He once sang as Robert Goulet in front of 400 people, and if there’s recorded proof, he’s not willing to provide it to the rest of the staff.

Before joining us in 2015, Lisa experienced a variety of roles in the BC Film/TV Industry, having worked for the Film Commission, a local Talent Agency, and live-action sets as well. Of all her experiences, she's glad to have found a home in animation. She's worked on a lot of projects, but her absolute favorite is a short she created while studying for her Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts at Capilano University. She used Play Mobil to create a stop-motion PSA about road safety, and she thinks it might have given her the hint that animation is where she ought to be. Lisa's claim to fame is her EPIC keychain collection, and the fact that you can always count on her for Throwback Thursday jams.

Having moved up from sunny California to work in our Vancouver studio, Cathy's still getting used to the rain. Before joining our ranks, she worked for an independent production/distribution company in LA and prior to that, attended the University of California Santa Barbara. Her most memorable project was a Hallmark movie titled "Uncommon grace," but she insists that all of her past projects have been fun to work on. Cathy tells us that she is the "most normal person we'll ever meet" and we're more than prepared to take on that challenge.

Jin attended UBC, but politely declined to continue in favour of obtaining a paying job in a tremulous economy. She’s held many positions before joining our team but the most note-worthy was selling almost entirely legal Anime Products to the general public. Most famous for her wide selection of pens and markers, jin is always keeping things organized and making sure her team is ready to go.

Before joining us at Kickstart in 2010, Gordon worked at Bardel, World Wide Biggies and Big Bad Boo. Previous to that he attended Capilano University’s Commercial Animation Program from 2004-2006. Some of his favorite projects he’s worked on in his career so far have been Fruit Ninja, Voltron Force, and Bubble Guppies. Some facts about Gordon: He once ran for local office in my hometown of Vanderhoof, BC, he has tasted Sharkfin soup, he appeared in an episode of Camp Caribou when he was young, and he is a compulsive liar.

Originally hailing from Victoria BC, Mike Jones attended the Commercial and Digital Animation programs at Capilano University before getting his start in Vancouver’s animation industry. He worked at a variety of studios around the city before finding his happy place at Kickstart. Mike’s favourite project thus far has been storyboarding on Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force. Juicy! Mike is also a big fan of table-top RPG’s. D20’s are how he rolls!

Mei-ing was born and raised in The Netherlands, and moved to Vancouver in 2014 to do art direction for mobile games. Prior to joining Kickstart, Mei-ing worked for Emerald City Games on the Lionheart francise, helping to develop an extensive fantasy world including viking bears, library spiders and a minstrel rockstar (including air guitar moves). Mei-ing likes ABBA unironically, and so far no one at Kickstart has judged her for this fact.

Sol graduated from Capilano College’s Illustration & Design program (IDEA) in 2006 and has been working as an Art Director in animation and gaming since 2010. Joining Kickstart in 2011, Sol has used his background in oil and acrylic painting to bring to life characters, backgrounds and matte paintings. His previous experience in design and advertising has also come in handy while developing logos, pitch packs and even Kickstart’s own re-brand. For inspiration Sol enjoys cartoons, anime, sci-fi comics, horror films and has an (un)healthy obsession with terrible/amazing movies from the 80s and 90s. Outside of work Sol is busy throwing dance parties and recording pop culture podcasts with his 3-person crew CAN I LIVE and is responsible for some of Vancouver’s wildest parties including Nite Moves at the Biltmore, Bad Decisions, and the butt melting #Bootyburg.

Troy joined Kickstart in-studio in 2014 after working on a variety of projects for us as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Ghost Patrol and Fruit Ninja are two of the projects he’s enjoyed working most during his tenure at our Vancouver studio. Troy attended Capilano University’s IDEA program from 2006-2008 for illustration and design. He receives at least one music pizza (vinyl record) in the mail per week, or maybe it just seems that way from an outside perspective.
